For about two months an unofficial report has been circulating in the Łódź and Polish cultural community about a planned merger of the Book Art Museum into Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź.
According to available, unofficial information, the final decision may depend on the outcome of a vote by the Łódź Voivodeship Sejmik. The Łódź Voivodeship local government co-manages Muzeum Sztuki together with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The Book Art Museum has been managed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage since January 2026. Previously, from January 2023, it was co-managed by the Ministry and the Correspondance des Arts Foundation (Fundacja Correspondance des Arts), which founded the museum in 1993 and ran it for 30 years.
The initiative to merge the two Łódź museums came from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. So far it has not been presented publicly in terms of the reasons for the planned reorganization or the benefits it would bring.
BAM employees also do not know the real impact of the planned changes on their employment, salaries and future activities.
This would be the third organizational change for the Book Art Museum since January 2023. Because no public justification has been given for these actions or their expected public benefit, we are announcing an open discussion about the Museum's activity to date, its 33-year legacy and the values that may be threatened by the reorganization.

We hope that the public discussion will help BAM preserve the historic seat in Henryk Grohmann's villa at Księży Młyn, its own identity, its achievements to date, its lively character and the possibility of further development.
